Life Experience Thread of the Week (after about a 2 week hiatus) #4 - Work sucks. Customers suck, bosses suck, anything else employment-related sucks.
I've been fortunate enough to avoid customer service jobs for the most part. The closest thing to customer service I ever had was when I was working as a camp counselor, and most of my gems were from the craft lodge, teaching merit badges... specifically to kids from this one troop from NYC.
Instance 1, teaching Indian Lore. Requirement: Make something like a local Indian tribe would have made. Tomahawks were selected somehow, by using yarn to tie a rock to a stick.
Kid ;D - Can you do this for me?
Me - You're the one who's supposed to be doing the merit badge
;D - Oh. Can you get me some tape?
- I don't think the Indians would have used tape...
;D - Oh. Ok. (Proceeds to go inside, get a roll of masking tape, and use about 5 feet of it to tape his stick to his rock)
Other kid from that troop. This time it was leatherwork.
;D - Can I dye my leather yet?
- Not yet, you have to stamp a design into it first
;D - OK (Stamps teddy bears into random places)
Department Head - You didn't put any effort into this, I can't pass you.
Kid - YOU RUINED MY PROJECT! (For the next 4 days)
Coworker - YOU RUINED HIS PROJECT!
- (Feels bad about it for a bit, but then realizes) No, I didn't touch your project.
Other kid, less entertaining story - Kids were paired up to do a compass course. One kid insisted on doing it by himself, and when he didn't get it, spiked his compass and shattered it, then cried for about 20 minutes because it was his dad's compass from when he was a kid.
I have some more from more recent jobs, but post some stuff.
