I know what you mean. They updated their website a while back and now everything is ridiculously large.
Basically, Magic is going through an overhaul similar to the 6th edition change... ...well, ok, nowhere NEAR as extreme as that, but there are a LOT of changes. I'll just quote the post.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: Actually, that's still big, I'll simplify it even further in this little block, and then the quotes and full details after if you want to read those (and my opinions.)
-Mulligans are now done simultaneously instead of individually
-Terminology changes: "In play" is now the Battlefield, "playing" spells is now "casting" spells, "playing" abilities is now
officially "activating" abilities, "Removed From the Game zone" is now Exile ("remove target creature from the game" will now be printed as "exile target creature") and "at end of turn" has been reworded to "at the beginning of the end step" as clarification.
-
Mana burn is removed-Combat no longer uses the stack
- Some other minor changes (LEGITIMATE) changes that actually help fix some holes in the game.
------------------------------------------------------------------
This is no big deal. I've always played this way anyways, so this doesn't change anything for me.
And here is an example of that:
I'm indifferent to this one. It's a
little cheesy...but I can understand the flavor. I think it just sounds a little funny, and when I read that Clone text I kind of want to roll my eyes at it...but meh, whatever. No big deal, doesn't really change how the game is played or anything...
And an example:
This one I love. Cast is the traditional word that many older players use anyways. I like that we are going back to it.
Example:
I HATE this one. If I cast Carbonize it and removes a creature from the game, that creature isn't exiled...It's
Forking vaporized. Exile just sounds WEAK.
And an example:
I think this was a good idea...but the failed in the execution. "Beginning fo the end step" just sounds ridiculous, and looks equally as stupid on the card. And isn't that MORE confusing for new players. Everyone understand end of turn, but beginning of the end step? I can see a lot of new players being confused by that. "So what happens at the END of the end step then?" will probably be a common question.
THIS IS THE BIG ONE[/size]:
That's right. Mana burn is REMOVED from the game... ....apparently it's too confusing for Wizards target audience (third graders.)
Again, this one is no big deal. There were some cards that could abuse this little hole in the rules, but this is a legitimate fix. It patches a little problem in the rule book. THIS is a good change. Unlike many of the rest.
For people who don't know how to use the stack, this is no big deal. However, this SIGNIFICANTLY simplifies combat. No more combat tricks. No more of that "while you damage is on the stack, I'll sacrifice my beast to Ravenous Baloth and gain 4 life" Yea, that's right, Ravenous Baloth is crap now. So is Mogg Fanatic, and anything else that was used with stack manipulation.
There are 2 others having to deal with Deathtouch and Lifelink, but they are ligitimate fixes as well, and most people played the way the new rules have changed to, so it's no big deal.
