1. I, for the most, live a plenty active life otherwise. Yes, I have my spurts where I play WoW far too much, but that's how it is with anything, especially hobbies.
2. If you can balance it, you're fine. Most people hear WoW and think of nerds living in their parents' basement never moving and living completely through the game. They think of those horror stories where people become addicted and ruin their lives because of it. You have to be horribly irresponsible and painfully easily addicted to end up like that.
3. If nothing else, WoW gives you a 2 - 10 minute break ever so often because of traveling you have to do. Basically, you fly everywhere, and flying takes time. The longest flight (from one end of one continent to the other end) takes roughly 10 - 12 minutes. So even if you are in the middle of a "I'm going to play WoW" thing, you can still get up and move.
Besides, movement is overrated. I mean, look at sloths, and hippos, and fat people. They all seem perfectly happy not moving much.

Well, sloths, hippos, and fat people who posess good self-esteem are happy enough. The other ones go emo, die off, or go on diets. Being a basement gamer probably doesn't have too many bad effects on self-esteem though, so its actually a healthier occupation than obesity.
There was this TV special on Discovery channel last night about WoW. They had all kinds of officionados on, talking about it. My dad and I got into an argument about the economic implications of real money exchange for virtual gear in the games. Because items and gold in WoW have real market value, they're taxable property, and income made from their exchange is taxable income. Eventually, we determined that in order for it to work 100% properly under current taxation policies and economic legislations, paperwork would have to be filled out and filed with the government for every trinket ever collected by every player at the instant they collected it, right down to the last gold piece. Actually, this would hold true for other online games with items that are sold for real money (DiabloII, GW, etc.) Do you know what I'm saying?

Eh, that would only make sense if the person who got the item intended on selling at the time they receive it.

Makes sense Scythe As i may have posted somewhere else (The Games board i believe) i have done a little bit of research (...Google) and found that people are playing the game on Dial-Up. Its a little unreliable, but the term often used is it's "do-able" so i may consider it. I just don't feel like paying $80+ (game+expansion) to find out it doesn't run well on my dial-up (AOL). I have no way of testing it so meh. I found a place that gave you a free code online to try the 10-day trial thing...but you had to download the game, which according to my installer would take approximately 600 hours. Yea, i gave it time, after the download sped up it was going to take about 450 hours. Hard to download a game that size on Dial-up. Needless to say i canceled it. Wish i could play.

You don't need your own copy of the game to install it, just your own account to log on.
I called Blizz when I was having trouble making mine work, they said it has nothing to do with installing, you could install the game on a hundred computers and play so long as they had their accounts. Borrow the disc from your friends and give it a shot.
PS - Mannoroth is the server you want. Hit me up on AIM when you get in.

Yea but do you need a disc in your drive to run the game? I wouldn't want to force a friend to have to quit playing for a couple days while i test it, and then if i gave it back i'd still have to buy it, and i lack money right now. Need to get a job soon. >_<
If i do ever get to play i'll make one on that server, but probably not my main account that i'll work on the most. Considering the fact that i'd be new i'd want to play on a PvE server for awhile. Could make another character on that one...but as it looks right now i'm not gonna be playing for awhile. Atleast not until i get a job, so i can buy the game/expansion/faster connection(if possible) and maybe a better video card. By then WoW will be dying. =(

You don't need the Wow CD in your drive to play... just to install. Ask your friends... I still have my 10 day trial thing I believe at home, PM me if you ever install the game and need the code.

And PvP isn't nearly as bad as you'd think, you don't have to worry about any PvP until you're well into the 20s, at the earliest, and even then you won't get ganked if you're smart.

Argh! I don't know anyone in person who actually owns the game. Most of my friends are either to 'cool' to own the game or to poor to pay for the game (so he plays it at his cousins house...bastage) I dunno, this blows. Bass: Indeed, i've read up on it. I understand how the PvP works...but still i'd like to have atleast my FIRST account on a PvE server, to get used to things. Although by the looks of it its not going to be anytime soon so its not like it matters. I have no means of paying for a monthly membership anyways right now. Gimme a couple months and maybe my mom will finally decide to officially give me the car.

Well, I'm not going to press the issue about playing anymore, you'll get it when you get it.
But I know plenty of people who started on PvE servers, made the switch later, and regretted starting on PvE in the first place. First off, PvP is generally better (more people and such). Secondly, leveling to 60 (soon to be 70) takes a LOT of time. 9-12 days of logged time. Doing that more than once on two different servers is a pain in the ass, because you can't support yourself with your first character.

Its a no go guys. I got a 2-week trial of the game when i bought Diablo II. The game installed fine, but then i had to download the patches...lets just say it was going to take a LOONG time.
So i won't be playing.
