How long are the books? Everytime i hear about someone reading the books i picture giant diciontary/encyclopedia things.

Not terribly long. Circa 500 pages or so, depending on what version of the book you have (hardcover, paperback, etc)

But that's all three books put together, right? I think mine are about 350-400 pages each, but they take longer to get through than most books of that size because of the writing style (fork Old English ).

Awww, man. Are the entire books in old english...or just what the people are saying?

Pretty much the whole thing. Actually, the dialogue parts are easier to get through for the most part.

*has a sudden urge to NOT read the books* Blimy, I can see it now... "Wherfore art thou, Saruman?" "Me be chasing the fuzzy footed one" "aye" Make it stop!

The only real old english I noticed was if you bothered to read the appendices at the end of the ROTK book. By old english, I think the candy-filled one means circa 1900 english, not Shakespearean. (spelling of that? who cares)
I've read the books, and then again, and then again, and then a few more times. Of course, I took breaks between these Tolkien reading sprees for other books, but they are a recurring element in my readings.

Where do you get those jumping up and down anime girls?AAAARRRRGGGGG! I want them. Ive read the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I thought The Silmarillion was more like a history lesson.

We all want them, molten one. We all do. And yes, the Simarillion was dryer than a rice cake, though it was very informative. Too bad all the info was about somewhere that doesn't exist in the known universe (not that much of the universe is known, and not that this is necessarily the only universe) but you know what I mean.

Actually, The Silmarillion was my favorite. I didn't think it was dry at all -- but that's probably because my copy is wet (it's the only book -- EVAR -- that made me cry).

It does start out slow, but it picks up so much in the middle and end it's worth it.

Indeed, some of the old threads are pretty funny actually. I was looking at the old posts in the Magic section (was going to look at one of those "What is your favorite color/creature/card/magic set" threads) and found the posts between Kemykal and Elfie on this thread to be hilarious.
