 New Editions?

Do the newer editions, whatever they are called - do they follow the storyline? Or is it a completely new story?
What I mean is...do they link up with the whole Urza, etc. story?

As far as I've seen, there's almost no link to Urza. I haven't read 5th Dawn or Champions books yet, but the only references to the previous storyline was that Karn originally created Mirrodin, before leaving to do something else. He also created the Mirari to keep tabs on Dominaria. At the end of the Onslaught storyline, Jeska goes with him. Also, Yawgmoth, Teferi, and I believe Gaea, are not dead.

Don't read Time Spiral, it'll make you sad.

The Magic storyline has been dead for awhile, but Time Spiral pretty much makes it official.

And just to throw an utter curveball to anyone who may look in on this out of curiosity in the future - not only do the planeswalkers have their own novels of their adventures through various planes now, they are even printed ON THE CARDS. Yea, that's right. Are you a Nicol Bolas fan?

The books are formatted a lot differently now, for anyone who is interested. Before, each set had a book of it's own, and the 3 books for each set combined to make a trilogy for each block.

Now, only 1 book is made for each block. So, for example, the Alara block (Shards of Alara, Conflux, Alara Reborn) has 1 book titled Alara Unbroken.

There are also "field guides" now. Such as The Planeswalker's Guide to Alara. These are books with big full-color images of the set, background information, concept art, etc.

Also aslo there are now "planeswalker" novels. These are continous storylines that follow a specific planeswalker. For example, The Purifying Fire follows Chandra Nalaar (Who we have seen in 2 planes so far: Lorwyn and Zendikar) So there will be several books that follow Chandra throughout the multiverse. Kind of like the old novels, so old school guys might really like that.

I like that there are stand-alone novels for blocks now...but it also kind of sucks that fat packs don't have books in them anymore. *shrug*

That's a lot of links!
